Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, everybody, and welcome to episode six of the Starlight Archive. I'm your host, Brian Romero, and that's your other host, Bryce Rankins.
[00:00:06] Speaker B: Yeah, that's totally, totally.
[00:00:07] Speaker A: That's totally the order. No, I'm Bryce Rankins. He's Brian Romero. Oh, I get confused. We're confused.
Today we are continuing our spoiler packed recap of wave one of phase one of the high Republic. This includes light of the Jedi into the dark and a test of courage, as well as the first arcs in the high Republic comic and the high Republic adventure comic. Last episode, we briefly talked about. We briefly talked about. We did the rundown of light of the brief. We're gonna keep it going. We did the rundown of the light of the Jedi, wherein a ship's going along and you get introduced to some people, and then they die. And then they die because the ship gets knocked out of hyperspace by another ship, and that's not supposed to happen. And then we cut to a new group of people, and they're like, oh, man, something's coming out of hyperspace really fast. And then they die that nobody knows why it's happening, but they're trying to stop any more deaths from happening. And the Jedi all come together, and they go, hey, things are flying out of hyperspace at random moments. We gotta figure that out. And then they do. And then the Nile show up, and then Jorah Molly dies, and we lose a bunch of other Jedi while they're all doing cool, reaching across the galaxy, lending their force to the song of the force led by Avar Kriss. And it's great. Yeah, it is. Then in the high Republic, comic, Keith Trennis is. She's gonna go do a trial. Yeah, she's gonna do a trial. And skier is like, hey, get to the top of the global guts mountain.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: Agro crag.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: The little. The aggro crag. So she's gonna go get a pendant thing from Tython up at the thing. It's not that important. What's really important is that when she's on her way up there, the locals start chatting her up, which are like little pixie things, and a huge swarm comes in, and she has to stop going up the aggro crag, much to the dismay of Moe the announcer. I don't know if you actually remember global guts. If you guys don't remember global guts, then this joke is lost on you.
[00:02:09] Speaker B: But to those who do know it, what up?
[00:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah, real ones.
Anyway, so she gets up the aggro crag, doesn't wind up getting that pendant, and then the swarm comes through, and she ends up saving the town because it turns out the swarm was actually all flying towards Starlight Beacon because Starlight Beacon was sending out a pulse that was a attracting them, and they were doing their migratory sweep way early. And so she's like, estella Mauro, you got to fix this thing. And Estella Maru is like, oops, sorry, my bad. And then he changes it, and that was that. Oh, and then skier's, like, in a bad mood at the end of it, and he's like, something's wrong. I don't understand. Oh, no. And that's what happened at the beginning of that. And that's what you missed on Glee. Yeah. So anyway, it was a good episode. Yeah. So then star the high Republic Adventures is the all ages comic that was released initially through IDW, and it is Daniel Jose Older's, like, youth side of the Star wars, the high Republic era. Technically, it starts with that one shot that kind of just introduces us as a prologue to the Nile and to Doctor Utterson and Mari Santeka and the gaze Electric and all of the kind of the.
[00:03:32] Speaker B: I think the issue itself is called the gaze electric.
[00:03:35] Speaker A: You know what it is? It is called the gaze electric. So you are absolutely correct. So that kind of introduces the Nile. It's sort of his first big. We're gonna rally the troops that you see him do. Yeah, I mean, you also, if your imagination is strong enough, you see him do that in light of the Jedi as well. But basically, it's just kind of a fun, let's watch these guys race. And it also introduces that weird species that's not a rancor that they ride around on sometimes. They're called bogguranths. They go to the boggaranth pen. They ride the boggy anth into the front, and then they get a message from Markeon that they're going on an adventure, so they better get going. So then star the high Republic adventures, the comic actually starts. It's got a whole bunch of padawans that seem like they may be important, maybe not. You're not entirely sure, but you've got Lula Talosola. You have Farzala Bibbs court.
We love court.
[00:04:39] Speaker B: We love court.
[00:04:40] Speaker A: Kourt's species is, I think, new to this. I think it might be era as well. But court's got, like, a court is basically like a walking humanoid cubone.
And he's great. He's got a good attitude. He's got a good attitude. He's a good kid.
So they are on what is effectively like a field trip with Master Yoda, because Yoda likes hanging out with the younglings. I think it is really just because he doesn't like being that much shorter than everybody else. Yeah, yeah. But Yoda and Torben Buck, who calls himself buckets of blood, much to the confusion of most of the Padawans and cantem psy, and they're all kind of just on a field trip. And then emergences start to happen, because, as you may recall from our last episode, emergences are happening, and things are just flying out of hyperspace. And they go to a planet called Trimant four, and they get there, and the whole thing opens with a little inner dialogue of Lula, and she's like, I've been secretly training as much as I physically can to be the best Jedi ever, which is kind of an ego thing that you don't really. You're not supposed to see in the Jedi, but she's a padawan and she's a kid, so, you know, whatever.
[00:05:53] Speaker B: And it comes up a couple times with other Jedi, too.
[00:05:55] Speaker A: Yeah. And Lula has her little inner monologue that she's wanting to be the greatest Jedi of all time. And then it cuts to this sort of parallel text structure of this character, Zine Morala, who's a Mickey in going, my name is Zine Marala, and I have a secret.
I can use the force, and I am not supposed to use the force because I'm part of this group called the Elders of the Path.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: And the elders of the path absolutely believe that the force should not be controlled or wielded or used. And honestly, I think they're even a little against even feeling it. Yeah, yeah. And I think she even explicitly says so that they're, like, even feeling the Force is frowned upon. Like, you're not supposed to have any experience with it. It's supposed to be its own thing. It should be free to do whatever it wants. So that's the elders of the path. They're this nomadic organization.
And she says at one point during the course of the first couple of issues that it's always felt like they've been kind of running from something. And so that's really interesting how that will eventually play out. Not to get too spoilery into the rest of wave one, but it became so obvious in rereading this how important Star wars the high Republic adventures is as a storyline. Yeah. So for everything.
For everything. So much like the whole plot of Star wars, the high Republic adventures, issue one and issues one, two, and three, specifically is fed into by, like, the whole first arc of phase two, which is nuts. Yeah. So it's all connected. It is. It's really well connected. And I was very excited when I started to finally put these things together because I didn't quite pay attention to high Republic adventures the first time I read it. So when things started happening, I was like, wait, do I know what that thing is? So I'll get to that, because these things are important. So while they're in the middle of, on their being on their field trip, an emergence happens to trimant four, and there's a big hunk of space debris heading for the planet. So they're like, hey, Padawan kids, you're gonna have to, Padawan kids and younglings, we're gonna have to go do some Jedi stuff. You're not really qualified, but if we don't do something, this whole planet is screwed. So they get onto the planet. They start having, they start rescuing people, getting people. And then the Nile show up, and they're in a big, giant spider bot that looks vaguely like the one from Doctor Arlis Loveless from wild wild west.
Ticket. Ticket. Ticket. Anyway, so. Wow. Wow. So there, I couldn't let it just get all the way.
So the, the spider bot shows up, and, yes, the artists are fully aware that it looks like the spider bot from Wild Wild west. It is in Kristin Bavor's art of the high Republic book. They absolutely talk about it. So they show up. The Nile are there now, and the Nile are taking one of the elders of the path leaders, and he's like, hey, and Chrix, this young little blonde boy and his best friend zine, who has that secret that she's not supposed to be doing any force. Things are trying to get out, trying to find someplace to get away from the awful fate that is about to fall on them, literally. So they see this gran, which is the three eyed cow looking things. They see him up there. He's one of the elders of the path, and he is going off with the Nile. And they're like, oh, my gosh. You can help us. Hey, we got to go. And they're like, no, no, no, kid. We're taking the old man f off.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:55] Speaker A: And they're like, what? And the guy sees them, and he feels bad, so he's like, uh, that kid's my assistant. And then the Jedi show up, and it's Yoda and court and bibs and Lula Talosola and. And mutton chops. Guy Farzala and Farzala. And they're all coming to help save the day, and they're saving the day. And the path. The elders of the path are like, but you're using the Jedi. Why are you doing that, man? And then Zine's like, wait, those people are doing good, and they're using the force. Maybe I can do that. And then Zine winds up siding with the Jedi, being like, yeah, I'm not going with the nihil. That seems like a real bad idea. The Jedi seem like they're on the level. I feel pretty good about this. Let's do this. And chrix like, is like, no, no, no, z, don't go with the Jedi. Those are, like, the bad guys. You know? That's the force.
[00:10:49] Speaker B: How can they.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: Yeah, they're awful. Those are force wielders. We don't want to do that. That. And then things start getting a little heavier, and Zine has no choice. And zine uses the force right in front of Chrix, and Chrix is like, gasp. What?
That was my hand slapping my forehead. For those of you at home and for those of you who are driving as well, so everybody's like, oh, snap. That kid uses the force, which he didn't save people. A Jedi.
[00:11:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:15] Speaker A: And then Chrix is like, you're a jerk. You lied to me your whole life, and I didn't know that you were force sensitive, and that's frustrating. He goes off. He's all mad at Zine, and he's with so angsty. The. The revelation that Zine uses the force is enough for Chrix to be like, well, you're a. You're a liar.
[00:11:34] Speaker B: How dare you?
[00:11:35] Speaker A: How very dare.
[00:11:36] Speaker B: Clutch my pearls.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: So he clutches his pearls all the way up the steps onto the ship with a Nile, and he goes off with the elder of the path. The elder of the path. His name is Tromac. And Chrix get on the ship with the Nile, and they go on their merry way, and there's some back and forth as to how they wind up getting out there. The Jedi try to pursue after they stop the emergence from falling. Zine and Lula kind of have this moment, and they connect with each other and realize that they're kind of two sides of the same coin.
More on that later. They've got a lot of parallel personality. They clearly have some sort of connection kind of within the force, which is cool. They bring zine aboard because they're like, listen, her home's getting utterly destroyed. It's been decimated. Her best friend just, like, screamed out that she's a dirty, rotten liar and went off with Tromac and the Nile have obviously kidnapped them. So as they're trying to pursue, Yoda hops on the ship, and he's doing sneaky Yoda things, and he goes over to finds Chrix, and Chrix is like, hey, you're a Jedi. And he's like, you're darn right I'm a Jedi. And it's cool because Markeon Rose sees Yoda and is like, that's Yoda. We gotta get out of here. So he knows who Yoda is, which is cool. And Yoda finds Chrix on the ship, and he's like, hey, a communicator. I have. Take it. He even took Chamcham to, like, show him that things are gonna be okay. First he's like, you gotta come with me. And he's like, no, I can't come with you. He's like, fine. Then when you decide you want to come with, because you've gotta do whatever it is you're doing when you stop being a stubborn little brat.
This is a communicator. It'll message your pal zine. And he's like, zine lied to me. And he's like, shut up and just listen. Take the communicator and, like, connect. Okay, I gotta go, because I don't want to be on the ship when you guys go off into hyperspace. So he jets, and Chrix is stuck on the ship with Tro, Mac and the Nile wind up doing some shady things, and Chrix is like, wait, that's not nice. You can't do that. You. You're just. You're just gonna fire on the medical vessel to, like, distract the Jedi? Because the Jedi will have to do that. That seems like we maybe didn't sign with the good guys troll. Mac, I don't know what you've been saying, but it seems a little silly. And is this gonna be good for Chrix? Is he gonna learn immediately that maybe he picked the wrong side? Nope, nope. Chrix is gonna slowly just become a jerk. Heads up. And zine's like, hey, my entire family, also known as this whole monastery, thinks I'm a witch. Can I please come with you to your space wizard city in the sky? And basically, they're like, listen, Zeen is too old to become a Jedi, but she's got force powers, and she's pretty strong in them. We should probably at least teach her some control techniques so that she isn't, you know, a threat to everyone who's around her.
[00:14:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:22] Speaker A: And which is cool that the Jedi.
[00:14:24] Speaker B: Do that for her.
[00:14:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:26] Speaker B: Because otherwise, they're like, now you're too old bi.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: Yeah. And I don't think you can just be now you're too old bi with. With that situation. Like, that's not okay.
But she goes with them because she doesn't have a place.
And they're like, hey, we can't train you as a Jedi because you're, like, 14, but we can show you a.
[00:14:45] Speaker B: Few things here and there.
[00:14:46] Speaker A: We can show you how to use this for good. And you can kind of hang out with us, which is cool, because they prequel Jedi don't do that.
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Right.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: You know, they're not. They're like, no, he's too old. Can't stay here. He needs to find somewhere else to go. Sorry, little orphan boy who was once a slave. You got to go find your own way. Oh.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: Got to go home. But you can't stay here.
[00:15:06] Speaker A: So anyway, roll up on the starlight beacon, and they're like, you can stay here for a while. Is that cool? And they're like, yeah, that's cool. And Yoda's like, cool. Cause I have a communicator, and it definitely is gonna let us find them later.
And that's basically it. Other than, the only other thing that really needs to be brought up is that Avar Kris has been made the marshal of starlight beacon. That's, like, kind of what's coming next, but that doesn't really happen until that happens, like, just before the ceremony.
[00:15:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: So Yoda and Astalamaru are like, hey, you know how you just, like, are amazing and stuff? And she's like, yeah, I know. And they're like, yeah, you know, you got that whole song the force thing. And she's like, yes, I do. And then they're like, cool, you're gonna run Starlight Beacon? And she's like, wait, no, I like going and doing stuff. Yeah, okay. And they're like, no, you're riding a desk. You've been too wild. Avar.
You're riding a desk. Avar. You've been. You've. You're a loose cannon.
So there's a bunch of kids.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: So we got. We got nubs, we got Liz Soleil, and we got Kai Brightstar.
[00:16:13] Speaker A: Yeah. And those kids are doing their little adventures. There's one kid who's, like, secretly a prince, and he is doing Nile stuff, even though he's not a Nile, but he's very Nile adjacent. And he's going by the name Tabor. Tabor. And he's cosplaying as a bad guy, but he's actually just kind of a prince that wants attention, and he's going by the name Tabor. And they go on their adventures or whatever, but then at the end of that, they go with Yoda, and they get to also be part of another little starlight beacon ceremony at the end. So, yes, it's canon, and you can deal with it.
[00:16:45] Speaker B: It's absolutely canon. This is the young Jedi adventure.
[00:16:47] Speaker A: Yeah, we're just talking about young Jedi adventures, which is available on Disney. Watch it with your little kids. Watch it with your younglings. Watch it with your initiates. Watch it with your roommate while you're both in your thirties.
[00:16:57] Speaker B: Yeah, as you do.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: It happens. Anyway, so that's that. Then we move to into the dark, which is Claudia Gray. Oh, yeah, and we love Claudia Gray.
[00:17:09] Speaker B: Yes, we do.
[00:17:10] Speaker A: Throughout the course of the high Republic, a lot of people give crap to Kevin Scott for doing bad things and hurting the people that we love, but truly, no one has hurt me in the high Republic as much as Claudia Gray has. So more on that later.
And by later, I mean several episodes from now when we're getting to the end of phase one. Sorry, hurt is involved. So there's a group of Jedi. Orla Gireni, and now we're. Now we're on into the dark. Orla Garini and Dez Raiden and Komak Vitus. Komak Vitus and wreath Silas. And they all are gonna go to the starlight beacon ceremony. They can't find a ship to get there easily, and so they all carpool with a group of people who have a ship called the vessel space pool.
[00:17:59] Speaker B: Ship pool.
[00:18:00] Speaker A: Ship pool. Shit. Pool. Ooh, that sounds weird. That's it.
[00:18:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
Carpool in space.
[00:18:05] Speaker A: Carpool in space. So the carpool in space on a ship called the vessel. And the vessel is piloted by Matthew McConaughey. Leox. Jesse. And he talks his log. Matthew McConaughey. The whole dang time. Yeah, and he calls his. He calls his co pilot little bit, and little bit is actually a woman named Affy Hollow. Afy Hollow is the daughter of the person who runs a group called the Bind Guild, and the bind guild is effectively a group of runners, sometimes smugglers, and it depends on the day. So we maybe, you know, close one particular room in the vessel off so that those hoity toity Jedi folk, you know, they're not gonna understand. We got why we got all these ragweeds and things like that. And then their third and most charismatic character, arguably the greatest character in the entire high Republic, is a sexy man, a paragon of wisdom. He's a Ventian, and his name is Geode.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:19:12] Speaker A: He's a man of few words, but great wisdom always. And if you didn't know any better, you'd think he was just a rock because he looks like a big boulder.
[00:19:22] Speaker B: But he's not. He's not a sentient being.
[00:19:25] Speaker A: He's a sentient being. He moves, does pilot.
[00:19:27] Speaker B: He flirts. He plays sabacc. I'm guessing maybe.
[00:19:30] Speaker A: I don't know. I bet he plays that weird chess game.
[00:19:33] Speaker B: That's what I was thinking, which I think he actually does.
[00:19:35] Speaker A: New strategy. Let the vintien win.
Yeah. The difference is, is a droid doesn't come up to you in your sleep without you knowing or able to hear him coming up for you.
Anyway, no, Ventian, he doesn't ever move, quote unquote on screen, right? So it's always like, oh, he's way ahead of you. He's already in the cockpit, and you're like, oh, good, he's ready to go. Anyway, so they're off, on their way to the starlight beacon dedication ceremony.
[00:20:01] Speaker B: Yay.
[00:20:01] Speaker A: Yay. And on their way, they get pulled out of hyperspace.
[00:20:04] Speaker B: Oh, no.
[00:20:05] Speaker A: And so they're now in the middle of a system with basically nothing in it, right? And they're like, man, wow, there's a bunch of other ships here. Why are we all stuck? Hmm? Let's reach out to this other ship. And they're, sorry. Another ship reaches out to them, and Orla's like, do not answer that message. And everyone's like, Orla, why? That doesn't make any sense. And she does not say it, but basically, she's like, I got trauma about unanswered messages and weird situations like this because it turns out that Orla and Comak Vitus used to be pals. Have been pals. They're Padawan pals. Padawan pals.
[00:20:44] Speaker B: Padawan pals.
[00:20:45] Speaker A: Tuesdays on NBC. So we find out during the course of this book that Orla and Comac were on this mission to, like, this planetoid that wasn't quite a planet, not quite a moon, where Comax master Simiks died. And due to safety, safety harness. Not accommodating beings without arms. Hello, space Osha. What are you doing?
[00:21:04] Speaker B: Yeah, where are they at?
[00:21:05] Speaker A: Because Simiks was one of those snake guys, right? Which I'm pretty sure that same species showed up in the Leia book as part of her little crew of kids that were, like, training for the senate with her and Emily Holdo. Holdo. Yeah, like, in that crew was also, like, one of the same snake species. It's not like oporensis. Like, it's just.
[00:21:26] Speaker B: See, that's where I went at first. But, yeah, no arms. Yeah, no arms.
[00:21:30] Speaker A: Oprah and sis is four. He has two arms. It's Yarriel Pouf who has four arms. There's concept art of him with two arms, and they screwed up, and they were like, oh, shoot, we forgot he had four arms.
[00:21:40] Speaker B: That comes up a little bit in the living force that I'm right in the middle of double rances.
[00:21:44] Speaker A: Only had two arms. That's twice as many arms as Skere has.
Anyway, so he's the snake species. He doesn't survive the crash when they crash on the planetoid, and it turns out that they're there because Iram and Irono's monarch and, uh, queen, not respectively, are.
Were. Both.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: Had.
[00:22:02] Speaker A: Both been kidnapped by a syndicate called the directorate. And they don't know who kidnapped who, what exactly the situation was. Is this a setup? There's definitely some trust issues that she's developed. She's a way seeker. She's. She follows the force. She doesn't follow the Jedi. Komag fight us is much more on the Jedi path. She's like, I'm out exploring the frontier. Yeah.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: Most Jedi are attached to a temple or one or two temples, and way seekers are just doing their own thing. They're like, I'm going where the force tells me to go, not where a Jedi master on a council tells me to go.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: She's a US marshal, not a sheriff.
Wait, do us marshals get to go anywhere? I don't know. Tommy Lee Jones seems to be able to go everywhere. Yeah, I hope that analogy worked. Yes. Anyway, she's Tommy Lee Jones in us Marshall. At least that works.
So they have their little flashback or whatever. Meanwhile, back in regular time, the vessel notices that the sun in this system is going to have a solar flare, and the solar flare is going to knock out all their systems, and then it's going to be dead in the water. And that's no good.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: That's even worse.
[00:23:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Hey, guys, there's a way we can survive that supernova thing, and it's by going to that station over there. And they're like, what? That's just a forest moon. And then they're like, no, that's no moon. That's the Amaxine stations. Hey, let's go over to that station. So they go to an old station that's overgrown with plants. It's the imaxine station. First scene as the timeshare of one Philip J. Snoke. What is, what is Snoke's first name?
[00:23:30] Speaker B: He doesn't have one.
[00:23:31] Speaker A: That's right. Okay, then I'm going to keep with Philip J. Snoke, the timeshare of one Philip J. Snoke, official in canon name. Call me Pablo. We can talk. Anyway, Snoke's, like, secret hideout. Base is this imaxine station, and it's basically a big conservatory garden in space. Yeah, they all go to the amaxian station, and they all pile on board, and there's a bunch of different species there. And some of them are good, some of them are crummy. They're known for being smugglers, traders, et cetera, et cetera. So they get there, there's robots going around, and they're doing their thing, and they're like, oh, we're just gardening, you know, heidi, heidi, heidi, heidi, heidi. So they're doing their gardening thing, and everyone's like, cool. What is this abandoned place? This is weird. And afy notices that there's some, like, sketchy things written on walls. And she's like, I don't know what those things mean, but I'm gonna find out.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:24] Speaker A: There's some old guy who is hanging out with this girl named Nan, and she's like, hey, wreath, you look pretty good. But her voice on this one, like, until she, until you get to the end, her voice is like, weirdly nasally, and it really bothered me. But anyway, she's like, hey, Reith, we could hang out. You're a Jedi. That's pretty cool. And wreath is like, you know, he's a little smitten with her, and he and her kind of become friends, and they're trying to keep the peace amongst all these other people who are not getting along on the station. And there's some history there. And Reese is not ready for adventure. He's not like, des ride an, who's like, hey, I don't. I can't have attachments, babe. Sorry.
I'll call you. He's definitely getting up in the morning and be like, no attachments. Sorry.
Anyway, Des Ridan, who is having his time with the locals, et cetera, is not doing that on the station. As far as I know. During the course of this book, Dez Rydan does not get down, get down. Wreath does not also get down. But on the other hand, Reith is definitely having his conversation. But wreath is a bookworm. Des ride Anne, total adventurer guy. So Des and wreath are like two sides of Indiana Jones. Wreath is Doctor Jones, and Dez is, like, whip cracking, you know, making out with the ladies adventure Jones and both. But both of them are too far on either side of it. Perfect. So I think what Joramal is kind of trying to do by getting them to both join her and getting them to, like, hang out together was kind of an effort to make them both into better Indiana Joneses, if that makes sense. Like, wreath, you need to be more, you know, adventure. Yeah. And then, Dez, you need to look at some books. Okay. Can you stop banging your way through the galaxy, Des? Right, Anne. So she's very much encouraged wreath Silas to explore this idea of being kind of more of an archivist. You know, the Jedi order needs some bookish types, but he's also bookish to a fault.
[00:26:30] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:26:31] Speaker A: So.
[00:26:31] Speaker B: So she's like, come out with me on the starlight beacon. Come out and explore this side of the galaxy to really get a better grasp of your Jedi training.
[00:26:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And it's not all bad. There's a starlight archive. Yeah.
[00:26:46] Speaker B: So he's coming to visit us. He's a good hobby.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: He's gonna come hang out. Yeah. So Reef is out there trying to deal. He's like, I did not want this level of adventure. I didn't even want to go to the starlight beacon. The last thing I want to do is this. And at this point, he does not know that Joramali is.
In fact, I think at this point, Joramali is not yet dead. At the beginning of this, they wind up in a room with some statues, and they're like, these statues kind of creepy. Are not good.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: Something's kind of creepy.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: Something's creepy. Something's weird about them. Turns out they are sith statues. Now, the imaxene are an ancient warrior race, right? Are they more ancient than the Sith?
[00:27:26] Speaker B: Yes. Whoa. Allegedly.
[00:27:29] Speaker A: Allegedly, they are more ancient than the Sith. But the Sith have put on this station some statues. They have a little statuary garden. Yeah. Which means that maybe they were here at some point. We're not entirely sure why. So eventually, hyperspace opens back up again. Hyperspace was shut down during the emergences, as it was. And they go, okay, cool. Let's get together. Take these creepy statues and put them under the temple, because if you didn't know the Jedi temple on Coruscant is built on top of a Sith temple on Coruscant.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: Sure was. Which they did occasionally to try and cancel out the dark side.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, yin and yang totally works.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: Most of the time.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: But with the Sith temple, the Sith temple has basically become that big warehouse at the end of raiders of the lost arm.
[00:28:15] Speaker B: Right.
[00:28:16] Speaker A: Don't worry about the statues, okay? We've got top men on it. Where are you putting it? Top men?
[00:28:22] Speaker B: Des.
[00:28:23] Speaker A: See, the Indiana Jones thing comes back. Yeah. Wreath and Des go down, and they get Scooby Doo'd. And a door spins on its axis and accidentally takes him behind the bookshelf. And then light starts beaming through, which is way not cool and way not a Scooby doo thing. Yeah, no, imagine the bookshelf spins, and, like, an incinerator basically starts, and they're not sure. Des looks like he's in horrible pain. The light gets blinding. Wreath shields his eyes. And when he finally opens them, it gets to the other side of that door. He looks through the window, he sees that there's just nothing.
[00:28:58] Speaker B: There's nothing there. Des is gone.
[00:28:59] Speaker A: Dez is gone. And there's some rings there. And he's worried that Dez has been jettisoned into space.
[00:29:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Because these rings launch ships into hyperspace.
[00:29:07] Speaker A: Yeah. And so he's like, something's. I guess he's dead. I guess adventure really does suck. And so he goes and he tells comc Vitus, hey, Dez is gone.
[00:29:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Orla shows up. They also like, hey, Des might be dead. He's probably dead. So they actually end up going back around there. And Orla's like, I don't think he's actually dead.
[00:29:32] Speaker A: I would sense that corpse floating in space just outside here. But they make it seem like he was, like, the. The hyperspace rings launched, like, him or something. It's really unclear within the book as to what could have possibly happened. We don't know where he is. He's like, hey, Orla. Hey, Comak. Our friend Dez is super dead. And they're like, oh, no, that's really crappy. But then Orla's like, well, maybe he's not dead. I don't know. I don't really get in a whole he died vibe from this place. And wreath is like, okay, well, that's a little insensitive, but fine. Meanwhile, afy finds some writing on the walls, and she's like, I think I've under. I think I understand what this means. And I think my parents were here and she does some more exploring. They're not really sure. Then they go back. They do the statue. They take the statues to the sith temple underground. So they got to do a purification ceremony on these statues. And the statues are taken to the weird underground bad statue archive place thing. And when they go to purify the statues, they're like, hey, there's no dark side energy in these statues. But we sensed a bunch of dark side. Oh, no, they did. These were holding the dark side. That's on the station. That means the station is full of dark side. Also, on this trip back in their little, like, rundown with the council on Coruscant, they get introduced to the Nihil, and he's. And wreath specifically is like, you know, uh, that girl nan, who was like, you know, hitting on me the whole time. Her ship kind of looked like that, I think. Nan and her old guy, whose name is Haig, by the way. I'm pretty sure those guys are niall. And everyone's like, okay, reef, sure. You can just recognize Niall. And Master Rosacen, who I do not like at all, is like, listen, young man, you're dumb. I'm smart.
She's basically Danny Devito from Matilda.
So he's like, well, we have to figure this out. So he goes and he talks to Comac and Orla, and he's like, hey, you're reasonable people who are willing to bend the rules. Can we, can we please, can we, can we go look? And Orla and Comak are all like, hey, yeah, damn the man. Screw the council. We got to get these statues back there. And Reeth's like, cool. I'm glad you're in on this, because I need to go back and maybe, you know, confront that Nighhill girl who's been hitting on me. And. And so they go against the council's wishes, which is awesome.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: Good. Yeah, stupid council.
[00:32:08] Speaker A: Yeah, council. Get your stuff to know what's going on. I really don't. Well, sometimes. Sometimes. I mean, occasionally, I guess, but Rosacean?
[00:32:20] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:32:20] Speaker A: Yeah, she's a jerk. Yeah, Rosacea, we don't like her. Yeah, she's a. She's a mean lady, and she doesn't take people seriously when she's supposed to. And she's not nice to my friend Stellan. No more on that later. Anyway, so they go back to the Maxine station, and when they get back to the Maxine station, the drain gear are there, and they're like, oh, that's what this was holding back.
So they take all the statues back. They're going to set them up. They have to set them up exactly right. Like, it's a legends of the hidden temple game. And when they get there to go look for Nan and Haig Afy, who flies them there naturally, because she's their, like, cool buddy is like, hey, I have to go look at something. And so she goes back to see that marking, some markings that she saw that mentioned her parents, and she finds out that her parents were not working for the bind guild. Her original parents are dead. I don't know if we mentioned that. So her parents are dead. Her mom, who is the buying guild thing, adopted her, as it turns out. So her actual birth parents were part of the bind guild, but they didn't work for it so much as they were indentured servants, which means that the bind guild was giving secret hyperspace paths that were not necessarily reliable to their indentured servants and used these dangerous paths as an incentive to reduce their sentences.
[00:33:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:41] Speaker A: So, hey, if you drive on the.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: Sketchy roads and it takes you somewhere.
[00:33:45] Speaker A: Good, and it let us know. And, you know, and if it's faster, you get the deliveries out faster, that makes us look good, we'll reduce your sentence.
[00:33:54] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:55] Speaker A: And also, if it works, you know, let us know. Hahaha. So it turns out that her adoptive mother basically is responsible for the death of her parents. Yeah, which is horrible. Meanwhile, Reeth is out looking for Nan, winds up on a Scooby doo door himself, and then ends up getting launched into space and figures out, oh, snap, if I'm being launched into space. Des probably got launched into space. Space just like this. And he's on what is effectively a hyperspace escape pod. So he goes through the helix rings, the light shines all that. He winds up going out landing on a planet full of drangir. That's a problem, because it turns out by removing the statues, they have awoken all over the galaxy.
This ancient carnivorous, carnivorous plant like, angry plant are so angry. Zilla thing. Yeah, and they just. They don't want to deal with anybody. They just. And they can talk, and they really only say one thing most the time, and that is meat. They just want meat. And imagine Audrey, too, with less fun personality.
[00:35:05] Speaker B: Classic Audrey.
[00:35:06] Speaker A: What are you doing? So they're angry and they're bad, and they're basically plantzilla, and there's a bunch of them, and they end up popping.
[00:35:15] Speaker B: Up all over that side of the galaxy.
[00:35:16] Speaker A: Yeah, they start showing up all over the place, but they're trying to get out and the Drangir are plantzilla sentient plants that are force sensitive, and they, like, they refer to every living thing that isn't them as meat. Realizing that these plant, like, awful monsters are actually a problem, he's like, oh, my gosh.
All the plants on the station, those were just sleeping. Drangir, the amaxines, had built that station so that they could fight them. And the dengue were like, we used to be amongst all the worlds, and then they tried to stop us, and they stopped us there. Yada, yada. And hopefully them stopping them on the amaxian station and them suddenly not being alert and alive anywhere else doesn't have some sort of weird, you know, implied meaning or problem for later, perhaps.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: Probably won't.
[00:36:09] Speaker A: Nah, probably fine. Not at all, anyway.
And the drangir are gonna see the galaxy and take over because they took over that station, but then they got stopped because the statues. So they go to put the statues back and get them all organized, or what have you, and Reeth is stuck on this planet, finds out Dez Raiden is actually alive. Hooray. Yay. And so Dez is being repeatedly poked and, like, stabbed by thorns, and that's what's poisoning him. He's like, it's not good. It's bad. It's a bad time. And it's basically. He's basically being tortured by the drangir.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: Brutal.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: And it sends him into this blind rage. Wreath and Dez go at it with lightsabers, and wreath's like, dez, it's me, your old pal, wreath. Remember. Remember all those times, you know, you were gonna teach me how to talk to girls or something? I don't know. It doesn't work. They keep on fighting. Eventually, he's like, hey. And starts sending him memories through the force of Jorah Molly. And they're like, hey, remember Jorah Molly, that super cool character that everyone is excited about when they saw the concept art? Remember her? Remember how cool she was supposed to be and how she died in the light of the Jedi? And he's like, oh, yeah, that really sucked. That chapter made me very sad. And then Dez Raiden's like, wait a minute. I'm not a bad guy. And then he and Des escape, but he doesn't have very much energy because he's gotten the crap beat out of him. So Des, who's basically been tortured, gets dragged onto the ship, and he and wreath get on it and fly the heck out of there. Can't stop the drang gear there. Not great so the amaxian station, when they get back to it, which they're not supposed to be at, they definitely defied the council to do good for that is full a nigh hill now and good for them. Go figure. Reeth is right. Nan is a Nile. She and wreath have their little altercation, and she's like, next time I see you, wreath, I am gonna kill you. But because you're cool, because we flirted, and because you tolerated me where my voice was like this, then I'm gonna let you live this once. But, like, don't cross my path again, Reeth. Okay? Don't cross my path again. And thankfully, they never cross paths again. No, they're totally gonna cross paths again. I'll give you that spoiler right now.
So they get back there, they're prepping the statues or whatever, and they're like, wait, we should unstick the Drangir. Cause the statues in their positions properly are holding the Drangier in place, right, right. So they basically loose the Drangir onto the ship after everything else that's gone down, you know? Cause Reath is back, and they're all. The group of Jedi is trying to deal with the Nile, and then they loose them on the ship so that they can go deal with her thing. Afy's down trying to figure out the last of the mystery that she needs to figure out to figure out what's going on with the bind guild and her family. And then wreath gets the brilliant idea to jettison them all into space.
[00:39:09] Speaker B: Genius.
[00:39:10] Speaker A: So he opens up the airlock and shoots him out. Suckers. But, oh, no. Wreath is getting sucked out too.
[00:39:17] Speaker B: Oh, no.
[00:39:17] Speaker A: What's gonna happen? That's not so bad. This is terrible. He can barely hold on, and then wreath slips. And so he's. He's flying out of. He's flying out to the hole and he's going. And he's definitely gonna die. And he's gonna go out into the inky black void of space. And then he hits a wall. A closed door. Nope. He hits Geode. Yay. Blocks the door and is just like, I got you. I will be the door. Except says nothing because he's a man of few words. Anyway, Geode blocks the door, saves the day. What a guy, that geode. Typical.
[00:39:48] Speaker B: Typical geode.
[00:39:48] Speaker A: But what a guy. Yeah, just. He's so dreamy, that geode.
[00:39:52] Speaker B: I want to be Geode when I grow up.
[00:39:54] Speaker A: Me too, man. A few words. What would that be like?
[00:39:59] Speaker B: Wouldn't have a podcast or two.
[00:40:02] Speaker A: Just. This is our Geode hosted episode, and it's just silence.
[00:40:07] Speaker B: Stay tuned.
[00:40:08] Speaker A: So the next thing that happens is there's, like, one last flashback with comac and Orla and all the time on Iram and Orono, and it turns out that the directorate was actually under the order of the Hutts. So Irem and Arono, like, you know, or Areno, depending where you're from, they are isolated from the rest of the galaxy. And the directorate doing this, they knew that the Republic wasn't necessarily gonna do anything, but the Jedi would. And the Hutts basically set the directorate up to do an impossible task because it made the Jedi effectively hitmen, which is brilliant tactician work on the part of the Hutts, like, oh, I know how we can get a. Get rid of our competition, make them enemies of the people. Of the people. So they pay an astronomical amount to the directorate if they can accomplish this task. And as a result, the Jedi wind up taking out the leader of the directorate exactly as planned and does what it needs to do. But during that time, Monarch Cassel of Areno winds up sacrificing himself for Queen Thandeca, and basically, they had become friends through the course of their just chilling and getting captured and hostaged. Hostaged is a verb now. We're just using that anyway.
[00:41:29] Speaker B: Makes sense.
[00:41:30] Speaker A: But it winds up kind of getting both their planets to pull their heads out of their sand and stop being isolationists, which is great. Just kind of. As an aside, this colors comac Vitus so much.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:45] Speaker A: Because what happens throughout all this event, like, Orla and Comac have a lot of trauma about this particular event, and both of them basically shut it away and didn't discuss it. And so the events of into the dark kind of having similarities.
[00:41:58] Speaker B: The Jedi don't discuss emotions or feelings.
[00:42:01] Speaker A: Yeah. What? Crazy, right?
[00:42:04] Speaker B: That's probably. That's probably fine. It's probably okay.
[00:42:07] Speaker A: It's probably fine. Yeah. Yeah. But the problem ends up being that Orla and Comak never really get to talk about it. But Comak is devastated at the loss of his master.
[00:42:16] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:42:16] Speaker A: Because, like, hi, you don't have an actual family. You don't know them because you were pulled away before you wrote memory in your head. Yeah.
[00:42:21] Speaker B: So your parental figure's gone.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: Yeah. And Coma is like, I don't know what to do. This is horrible. And everyone's like, no, you should be happy. He's with a force, and he's like, just meditate on. But I'm not happy. I'm miserable about this. And he kind of has repressed all of this frustration. But that has kind of led to some of his disillusionment with the Jedi. And interestingly, it also has led to Orla's disillusionment with the Jedi, which is why Orla's a way seeker, because she's like, I don't serve the Jedi. I serve the Force.
I'm still a member of the Jedi Order. I still represent the Jedi order.
[00:42:58] Speaker B: But I'm gonna do my own thing for a while.
[00:43:01] Speaker A: If the force says I need to go to this planet, damn the council, I'm going. Whereas comac is. I feel like he's more of a I'm gonna change it from the inside kind of guy.
[00:43:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:43:10] Speaker A: Which is kind of interesting, but yeah, those guys didn't. The Jedi didn't really let him grieve his master. They're like, nah, dude, it's cool. And the fact is, it was very much not cool.
So the council, when they get back, the council disciplines Orla and Reeth and Comak for taking a crew and going back to the Maxine station against their order. But it's very much a slap on the wrist. They're just like, you know what? You did good, but don't defy us. That's not cool. And Orla's like, okay, yeah, and Comax like this again. And Reeth's like, oh, thank God. Yeah, we didn't get in too much trouble. And then everybody leaves, and they're like, reeth, wreath, hold up. And he's like, oh, no, it's the. See me after class. Oh, God, what is it? And they're like, hey, um, last time you were here, and we were telling you what, uh. What a dummy you were for thinking that Nan was a nile. Um, we also told you to tell us when you were ready to train again because you're still a padawan. And he's like, oh, yeah, I'm a Padawan. Yeah, I gotta find some. I gotta find a master. Cause Joramali's, like, dead.
[00:44:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:16] Speaker A: Mmm. Okay. This is weird that this is entirely in my hands. Nothing's been in my hands up until now. I'm a Jedi. I serve the order. Okay. We'll figure this out.
[00:44:24] Speaker B: But also interesting that they're living that decision. Go to him, because I think.
[00:44:28] Speaker A: I think he's basically ready, but I think they need him to say it.
[00:44:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:33] Speaker A: And he doesn't think that he's fully ready. Right.
[00:44:35] Speaker B: So therefore, he's not ready.
[00:44:36] Speaker A: So therefore he's not ready. So he goes and he visits Dez. He invites Dez to come to Jorah Molly's, like, vigil. He's like, hey, we gotta burn a pyre and, like, stand watch and do the thing. Yeah, and Des is like, I can't take in the barish vow. Brian, what's the barish vow?
[00:44:52] Speaker B: Bears vow is something where a Jedi doesn't necessarily leave the Jedi order, but they kind of go off to think about what they've done. No, it's more of they feel like they've lost some sort of connection to the Force, and they want to try to figure out how and why and possibly how to get it back, or they're just kind of in a self imposed exile. So Yoda did something similar. Luke did something similar. So we've kind of seen it before.
[00:45:21] Speaker A: How is that different from way seekers?
[00:45:23] Speaker B: So way seekers are very much still with the Force. They're just letting the Force guide them to their next mission.
[00:45:30] Speaker A: Yeah. And they're still out doing Jedi stuff and representing the Jedi order. Yes. Are the barrios vow people representing the Jedi order?
[00:45:37] Speaker B: Not necessarily.
[00:45:38] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:45:38] Speaker B: Yeah. So there was one of our first mentions of it, and things we've seen was actually in Charles Soules Darth Vader.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: Run.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. So Vader hunts down a Jedi who took the barash vow, and that's how he gets his lightsaber crystal. Vader, he takes out this. This Jedi that's kind of. He took the vow, left, semi left the Jedi order, but it's still kind of. I think he's protecting a community like we've seen. I think he's, like, a super skilled lightsaber duelist. And so there's a really cool fight, and then Vader, being Vader, takes care of him, and then he takes his lightsaber, bleeds it, or his lightsaber crystal bleeds it. And that's what Vader uses as his Kyber crystal for his lightsaber, one he.
[00:46:22] Speaker A: Stole from a guy who was in exile because he didn't have as strong of the force.
[00:46:26] Speaker B: Something like that.
[00:46:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Womp, womp, womp. Back to the story.
Wreath is like, dude, you haven't, like, done anything wrong. You haven't, like, you haven't had a major screw up. Why are you taking the bearish vow? And Dez is like, nah, man, those plant guys really messed me up bad. Like, I'm gonna go meditate for, you know, years, maybe decades, because that's the sort of thing when you go to the barish vow, but also his connection.
[00:46:57] Speaker B: To the force was weakened or like, it was interrupted, and he wasn't able to get it back. And that's why he's like, I need to go fix this.
[00:47:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:05] Speaker B: To fix me.
[00:47:06] Speaker A: Yeah. And the thing is, and he says, like, the Drangir, like, hurt my connection to the Force. So whether that's somewhat through the trauma or if it's specifically something chemically that happened, it's unclear. But his time with the Drangier being just stuck out there by himself and being used by the Drangir really, like, screws him up. And we'll find out later in, we'll talk about this in a couple episodes when we get to the comics. The drinker can kind of worm their way into your brain and know things that they're not supposed to know. They can. They can create a psychic connection by shoving vines in your face. Yeah. So there's a lot of vines and noses and ears imagery coming up in the comics, and it's pretty messed up. Yeah.
[00:47:51] Speaker B: And they're also force sensitive, so, like, they have a connection with the Force to. To connect with other Jedi and force sensitives. Connection to the Force.
[00:47:59] Speaker A: Yeah. So they can use the Jedi as sort of conduits to deal with each other, which is really cool. Which at the time of reading this, I didn't know. So exactly how this all happened wasn't necessarily clear, but, you know, now it makes sense. Yeah. Des, who was super cool and is gonna be our new adventurer buddy. Is not gonna be our new adventurer buddy.
[00:48:20] Speaker B: No.
[00:48:20] Speaker A: And Jorah Molly, we now know, has died.
[00:48:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:24] Speaker A: And wreath is sad about this, and wreath is still trying to answer, like, questions, weird, mysterious questions that Jorah Molly asked, like, why can no Jedi cross the Kyber bridge alone? And that is because you are not alone when you are crossing it, because you are surrounded by the former Jedi, etcetera.
[00:48:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:44] Speaker A: Because you can't cross it alone, because we as Jedi are always relying on each other and seeking each other out. You can't cross it alone because you are part of a greater good and.
[00:48:56] Speaker B: A greater force, and we all have the force, so you're therefore not alone.
[00:49:00] Speaker A: Yeah. All the different, you know, great lessons you should be giving your padawan. So one last lesson for reath, which is really, really cool. So Orla goes and buys a new ship. Yeah. Called the light seeker with Geodes help. What a great guy that Geode is.
[00:49:15] Speaker B: Just a good dude.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: Such a good dude that geode.
So she's gonna go do more way seeking because she does her own thing, and she and comack briefly reminisce and then she's like, later, nerd. I'm gonna go do it. I'm gonna go chill.
Seek some ways. And she offers way seeking to him. And he's like, I don't think that's the answer for me, but I definitely need to figure some stuff out. So he goes off to go meditate, and then Reef goes to comac, and he's like, hey, please, maybe kind of, could you sort of possibly be my master a little bit? If you want, you can totally say no.
And he's like, uh.
And Reeth says, like, I saw all the things you do, and I respect you a bunch. And you're unconventional, but you're cool as heck. And I think I could use unconventional and cool as heck in my life right now. And he's like, okay, but why?
Like, I don't. I don't get it. And he's like, because I think we could learn. Like, I think I could learn a lot from you. And he's like, you know what? I've got a lot of things I got to learn. And so Comac says, like, I've never had a Padawan before, and I think I have a lot left to learn about the force. But you know what? You're a smart kid, and teaching is the highest form of learning, so I think I might learn.
I think you might be my greatest teacher. Wreath.
[00:50:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:40] Speaker A: So they have this brief but very super cool conversation about the dark side. He basically hints that, like, you know, maybe completely staying only on the side of the light is bad for the Jedi. And it's like, oh, you've listened to Dave Filoni and what's the other one? Sam Witwer and those guys talk about the importance of balance and how much the force loves balance, because he is literally talking about the importance of acknowledging and being and letting in some of that dark. Because if you sever it off, you strengthen the dark by letting it be by itself. You have to have some of that bleed over. And I think a lot of that comes from the fact that he wasn't allowed to feel the dark, the sad, dark feelings that come with grief. And because he wasn't allowed to grieve the way he needed to grieve, he doesn't fully respect what the Jedi are doing by just being like, no, light side only. Yeah, but by doing light side only, it means you do not understand your enemy. It means you do not understand what is happening with that. But you're also giving strength to the dark by not allowing any light into.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: It, but then, at the same time, you can't process your own emotions or feelings. Again, that seems to be a pretty common theme going on with a few certain Jedi, and even going to stuff in the clone wars and some of those books and, hell, even Anakin. Yeah, that's, you know, everybody. All the Jedi are, like, only good things. And if you feel bad things, just meditate. It's fine.
Yeah, but let me process. Yeah, how do I process?
[00:52:13] Speaker A: That's exactly. That's kind of. It's interesting because the conversation they have is very philosophical about how the dark side would get stronger if you never touch it, and how if you. If we're so busy bolstering the light, it means the dark will be bolstered as well, and in that balance. But it's very much coded in that exact conversation of, like, you have to have balance, and you have to acknowledge the dark in order to allow that. And I think we're going to see a lot of inner conflict with Comac if you look closely enough. But it's subtle, I think, going forward.
The vessel is now run and captained by Affihalo because she is her own woman now. She has turned in her mother. Her mother's like, really? You gonna turn in your own mom on Christmas Eve? And she's like, yeah, sorry, that's what I gotta do. That's a quote from Hawkeye. That's a different world. Anyway, she turns in her mom, and her mom is now no longer running the bind guild. She basically dissolves the bind guild because that's not safe. Let's not do that. Let's not have that happen at all. And. And Comc and wreath are now a team, and Dez is off doing his own thing. And then Comak and wreath go to the beacon ceremony, and they're kind of feeling each other out still, but, you know, they get it. And then queen Thandeca of flashback throughout this entire book, fame makes a speech, and she notes that no one is truly alone in the galaxy and that everyone needs to help and work together. And she dedicates the beacon to Cassel's memory because his sacrifice kind of made her realize, like, if we had just been working together and not bickering the whole time, because they weren't, like, quite at war like they had been before, but they were still isolated.
If they hadn't been so isolated, they wouldn't have gotten into that mess in the first place. So she dedicates it to Castell's memory, and it actually, the beacon goes up very near the planetoid that the hostage crisis that killed Comex master happened at. So that was cool. Then wreath is like, what happens next? And Comex, like, usually there's a feast. It's like, thank God, I'm starving. And then that's. They kind of go off, and that's that.
But in the shadows always. Nan goes up to Markeon Rowe, and she tells him that Hague died. And she's like, the Jedi trick that, like, launched everybody into space and released and releasing the Drangir and everything else. Like, it. It's the reason that Hague died. But then she warns Markeon, and she's like, hey, those Jedi are pretty powerful. We gotta be, like, super careful.
[00:54:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:54:48] Speaker A: And he's like, you're smart to worry about them. They are a formidable opponent, but they need to be afraid of us, because the nihil will be the destruction of the Jedi. Yeah. And it's very much like a promise about it.
[00:55:02] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:55:02] Speaker A: Which is super, super cool.
[00:55:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Just adds to his villainy.
[00:55:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Anyway, so that's basically into the dark. Did I miss anything, Brian?
[00:55:12] Speaker B: Yeah, that's pretty much cat it all.
[00:55:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so.
[00:55:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Now we have Drangier, but the Drangir.
[00:55:18] Speaker A: Is still around, which is literally the first time. This episode is the first time we've actually mentioned the Drangier in this podcast. We've been, like, very secretive, like, ooh, what is this mysterious other thing gonna be? So now we have the Drangir, which are, you know, 20 foot tall Plantzilla.
[00:55:32] Speaker B: Yeah, give or take. And they actually show up in mostly the Star, or in the Marvel Star.
[00:55:38] Speaker A: Wars high Republic, arguably their entire. The entire arc of the Drangir in.
[00:55:44] Speaker B: Phase one now takes place with the comics.
[00:55:47] Speaker A: Will take place in the comics.
[00:55:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:49] Speaker A: Anyway, that's basically everything that happened regarding into the dark before the comics kind of take off, and the comics from that point forward and from the dedication ceremony with issue one of the high Republic right forward are very much. They're gonna have to be their own episode.
[00:56:08] Speaker B: Yo.
[00:56:08] Speaker A: Yeah, so that's a good idea. Yeah, we'll talk about that later, but for now, let's close this off. That's the end of this episode. So next time we will be talking about a test of courage, which is we will very Vernestra row heavy and excited for the acolyte.
[00:56:24] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:56:25] Speaker A: Yeah. Brian has reread that entire book just now so much, we're going to jump over to him for the next episode.
